Uterine prolapse — surgery for pelvic organ support disorders
Pelvic organ descent and prolapse, commonly referred to as a prolapsed, dropped or fallen womb, is a pelvic organ support disorder. It causes symptoms that significantly affect quality of life: a feeling of pressure in the pelvis, pain, and problems passing urine or stools. Diagnosis takes place at our practice in Sopot, and we perform surgery in cooperation with Garden Clinic Hospital in Gdańsk.
When is uterine prolapse surgery indicated?
When conservative treatment (pelvic floor muscle exercises, pessary therapy) does not bring the expected results, surgical treatment is the most effective way to restore normal anatomy and function and to improve quality of life.
At our practice at ul. Słowackiego 10 in Sopot we provide diagnosis and treatment of pelvic organ support disorders and urinary incontinence. In the practice we perform gynaecological examination and pelvic ultrasound.

How do we choose the type of surgery?
We tailor surgical treatment to each patient individually. The choice of method depends on the degree of prolapse, the patient’s age, her general health and her plans regarding a possible pregnancy.
- When there are no indications for removing the uterus, we perform uterus-preserving surgery.
- When there are indications for removing the uterus, we perform a hysterectomy with correction of the support disorder.
Within this group we perform vaginal repair operations and suspension procedures, i.e. uterine suspension.
Vaginal surgery and the VNOTES method
We operate via the vaginal route and using the VNOTES method, which combines the advantages of vaginal and laparoscopic surgery. This is the least invasive route, using a natural body opening, the vagina. Vaginal operations allow correction in several compartments at the same time.
In most cases the patient is discharged on the first day after surgery, and in some situations even on the same day.
